Head Coach - Sensei Sean Merritt

Sensei Sean Merritt is the Chief Instructor (Head Coach) at Wolverhampton Karate Academy. Sensei Merritt has continuously trained Karate since 1977, when he started his Karate journey, at the age of 11. He currently holds the rank of 6th Dan (Kyoshi 教士). Sensei Merritt has trained under the most prominent Karate instructors in the world, including Hironori Otsuka II (2nd Wado-Ryu Grandmaster), Tatsuo Suzuki, Peter Spanton, Ticky Donavan.

Sensei Merritt has represented Elite Karate Association in Europe, USA and Jamaica, and achieved many success and awards along with way. Most notable;

Sensei Merritts success does not stop there, he has taught 1000s of students in his years of training, with many returning with their own children years later! Talk about creating a legacy. Over 100s of students have successfully attained their Black Belts under the guidance and training of Sensei Merritt. Sensei Merritt has created many successes inside the Dojo and outside, with many of his students competing at a national level becoming national champions in Karate. Sensei Merritt has also actively grown and supported many Karate clubs in the West Midlands, in particularly, he was at the forefront of growing Elite Karate Association in the 1980s, which went on to become the forefront of Karate in the UK and won many championships, including:
